Staying Connected when Emotions Run High

This initiative provides strategies to become a greater resource to someone who experiences distress which impacts on their relationships and behaviours. Workshops are available to families and carers, with separate training for professionals. All are delivered by Dr Annemaree Bickerton (Child, Adolescent and Family Psychiatrist) and Toni Garretty (Team/Clinical Coordinator) for the Family & Carer Mental Health Program within the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District.

Information sessions for Carers – Nowra Community Health Centre

Free information sessions are held in Nowra on the first Monday of the month for Carers who help someone who has a disability, chronic illness, mental illness or is frail aged.

The sessions include information on how to get help at home and planning ahead.

Free information sessions are held at Wollongong Hospital on the third Tuesday of the month for Carers who help someone who has a disability, chronic illness, mental illness or is frail aged.

Three-day workshops for Carers

Free workshops will be held in Shellharbour, Bomaderry, Fairy Meadow, Milton and Dapto throughout 2018.

The sessions help people providing support to a family member or friend because of illness, disability, mental illness or frail age to learn about services and supports, planning ahead and the opportunity to meet other carers.
