Hospital emergency departments are open 24 hours a day, including public
The role of an emergency departments is to treat emergencies - that is when illness or injury is serious and requires urgent medical attention.
The role of the Urgent Primary Care Centre is to specialise in lower acuity presentations, which means minor injuries and illnesses only. It is open from 7am – 10pm every day of the year.
The order in which you will be seen in an emergency department is determined by the seriousness of your health problem, not the time of your arrival.
Those people with the most serious and urgent conditions are always treated first and those with less serious ailments may have to wait.
