Aboriginal surfboard competition tour. From January each year to NAIDOC week in July. HARP tours an indigenous surfboard featuring designs by a local Aboriginal artist to 12 participating organisations in the area. The Aboriginal Surfboard tour raises awareness around sexual health & blood borne infections while offering the opportunity for one lucky person to win the surfboard
CaddyShack project runs in partnership with Healthy Cities Illawarra. It is a mobile outreach youth sexual health screening program which has a highly visible presence in any community setting - raising awareness around sexual health and STIs and the importance of getting a check up for young people. Condom Dispenser Project promotes consistent and effective condom use which is central to the prevention of STIs in NSW. The project provides free installation and stocking of condom dispensers to community services and organisations. To date there are over 58 participating organisations. In 2017 HARP dispensed 36,481 condoms via our free resource order form system and condom dispenser project.
Culturally & Linguistically Diverse (CALD) research project is being conducted by our NGO partner Healthy Cities Illawarra (HCI). The research will identify sexual health understandings, needs and issues of the region’s CALD communities including newly arrived people in Wollongong and will establish recommendations to address these issues.
Hepatitis Awareness Week is held in July each year and brings an international focus on raising awareness of hepatitis testing and treatment, stigma and discrimination
HIV Testing Week is an annual NSW wide event that is held in the first week of June. The week targets gay men and men who have sex with men (MSM) in particular about the importance of having regular HIV tests. Social media, advertising, community events and outreach testing are employed to demonstrate the ease of regular testing.
Red Ribbon surfboard competition tour. The Red Ribbon is a unifying symbol of solidarity and respect for people living with HIV/AIDS. From July till December every year HARP tours a surfboard featuring the red ribbon and designed by a local artist. The red ribbon surfboard tours services and organisations in our region - offering the opportunity for one lucky person to win the surfboard.

Take Blaktion is a sexual health awareness campaign designed to reach Aboriginal young people aged 15-29 and living in NSW. A partnership of NSW Health, Aboriginal Health & Medical Research Council (AH&MRC) and Naya Ngarra Productions, Take Blaktion is a peer led indigenous project designed for the community – by the community.
Youth Week: Youth Week is an annual state-wide event coordinated by the Office of Communities and utilizing networks with local councils. NSW Health is a partner in the Youth Week event and uses the platform to promote sexual health messages to the community. Other Youth Week partners include Yfoundations and Family Planning NSW.
World AIDS Day is commemorated on December 1st each year, with LHDs across the state using the day to promote a themed international campaign from UNAIDS. The focus of World AIDS Day is most often on addressing the stigma and discrimination faced by people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.
