Child, Adolescent and Youth Mental Health Service - Shoalhaven

What the service is

The Child, Adolescent and Youth Mental Health Service (CAYMHS) exists to promote emotional well-being, and deliver preventative services and treatment to children and young people with mental health problems. The child and adolescent services cater for children and adolescents up to 18 years of age with a diagnosable mental illness, whose condition is seriously detrimental to their growth or development, and/or who have serious difficulties in their social group or family. The Youth Mental Health (YMH) service accepts referrals for 14 to 24 year olds who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis / mental illness, or with early psychosis (within 2 years of onset of first mental illness episode).

What we do

The CAYMHS provides a specialist stream across the district, mainly delivered through a community service from sites based in Wollongong, Shellharbour and Nowra. An Adolescent Day Mental Health Program (ADP) is operating from Shellharbour Hospital, catering for CAYMHS consumers who are unable to attend school each day due to their mental health. The Department of Education and Communities employ teaching staff to provide some schooling to the consumers at the ADP.

CAYMHS also offers the following programs:
