Day Surgery Unit - Shoalhaven Hospital

Overview

The Day Surgery Unit at Shoalhaven Hospital has four Operating Theatres, a Recovery Room and Sterilising Unit. We provide a wide range of surgery for the people in the Shoalhaven Area.

More than 5000 surgical procedures are performed in at Shoalhaven Hospital each year across a range of surgical specialties which include General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, ENT, Ophthalmic, Orthopaedic and Plastic Surgery, Urology and Endoscopy.

The Operating Suite is fully staffed during the hours of 7:30am to 9:30pm Monday to Friday. Weekends and nights are staffed for Emergency Surgery only, with additional staff on call.

Elective surgery is scheduled during daytime hours, whilst emergency surgery is performed as required.

 

Getting to your surgery

The Main Entrance with a space for patient drop off is via Scenic Drive, Nowra. Public buses stop just outside our Scenic Drive entrance. Nowra (Bomaderry) train station is 3km away. 

The Day Surgery Unit and Operating Theatres are near the Main Foyer on the Ground Floor.

After surgery some patients may be moved to the Transit or Discharge Lounge. Here patients can wait for medicines or paperwork.  The hospital will tell your family if you have been moved to the Discharge Lounge

Parking: You can access the hospital car park via Scenic Drive. Disabled parking is available. Some parking is available on the streets around the hospital. Please check the signposts as there are time limits 

 

Recovery

The Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) operates within the Theatre Suite and is staffed from 8:00am to 9:30pm Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 6:00pm on Saturdays, 11:00am to 7:30pm on Sundays.

The Unit has 11 beds and provides patient care post-operatively.

We provide a child friendly area for our paediatric patients, and staff encourage and support the role of the parent in the child’s recovery phase.
