Our Culture and Values
We strive for healthy people and resilient communities at the Illawarra
Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD), and while we’re delivering safe
and effective person-centred care, we’re also working hard to look after our
staff along the way.
We’ve developed a series of workforce strategies, policies and systems to support our objectives, including the CORE values program, to focus on how Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment are lived and experienced throughout ISLHD to enable safe and constructive outcomes for all stakeholders
Our CORE Values underpin the behaviour and actions of all our staff. We aim to always ‘live’ our values in the way we work and how we interact with each other and our community - we call it 'CORE Living'.
We made this video to promote CORE Living and to encourage our people to ensure the CORE Values are integrated into our workplaces - ISLHD Values: CORE Living
ISLHD is committed to providing a safe and respectful working environment
for all staff. Bullying and unacceptable behaviours will not be tolerated
under any circumstances.
The NSW Health Workplace Culture Framework notes that NSW Health is committed to making a positive difference to workplace culture and creating and sustaining a more respectful workplace in which the CORE Values are demonstrated in all activities and decisions.
ISLHD has developed its own Workplace Culture Strategy to inform and support this commitment.
Creating a safe and respectful workplace is the achievable way of preventing bullying from occurring. Through continuous reinforcement of the CORE Values, Code of Conduct, and NSW Health Workplace Culture Framework, all parts of ISLHD can improve workplace culture for our staff, which will lead to greater satisfaction for our patients.
A Statement Of Commitment co-signed by ISLHD Chief Executive Margot Mains in co-operation with the Health Services Union, pledges to maintain a safe and respectful workplace for everyone.
As well as setting a benchmark for high standards of behaviour within our teams, it pledges to address unacceptable conduct, to support employees and model acceptable behaviour to staff and to intervene and investigate claims of bullying.
