Midwifery Group Practice (MGP)
MGP offers women with low risk factors continuity of care from one midwife, with the support of a team if he/she is not available. It also offers the option of Home Birth for some women.
What we do
We offer continuity of antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care to pregnant women who meet the criteria of a low risk pregnancy and live within the Illawarra/Shoalhaven Local Health District.
When to access this service
Access to the service is available to women who have confirmed their pregnancy with a GP. An on-line form is available for this purpose.
What to expect
Women can expect their applications to be processed by MGP on receival and will be notified of the availability of a place by 12 weeks of pregnancy. Women who apply after 12 weeks can still be considered if spots are available. A midwife will contact them by phone and confirm they have been given a spot or an SMS is sent if no places available.
Who should access this service
All pregnant women within the catchment area who wish this model and are deemed low risk in current or previous pregnancies. A midwife can have this discussion with the women to determine their suitability if unsure of what low risk entails.
How to access this service
Referral is usually made after the woman has seen her GP and all options discussed with him/her. An on-line form is available for the woman to self-refer directly but it is preferable that they have seen a GP first and acquired a formal referral for care which is needed by all women accessing the service.
What to bring
Women should bring their GP referral, copy of any blood tests, ultrasound reports or any other relevant documentation necessary to ensure low risk model of care is appropriate
