What the service is

The Outpatient Hand Therapy service is a centre-based outpatient service for patients with acute hand injuries. 

What we do

Provide long/short-term management, one-on-one therapy to patients with upper limb or hand dysfunction due to acute, post-surgical or Chronic hand conditions.

What to expect 

An initial appointment will be made following referral for a comprehensive assessment of your injury and discussion of treatment plan. There may be a delay between receipt of referral and initial appointment due to the number of referrals received by this service.

Who should access this service

Patients with an acute or chronic hand injury who have been referred by their treating specialist for Occupational Therapy intervention.

How to access this service

Referral from a treating health professional, GP or specialist is required to access service

What to bring

Your referral (if not sent by treating health professional) and any reports relevant to your injury.

How to get there, including by public transport

This outpatient clinic is located within the Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital. Access to the facility can be gained off Scenic Drive or Shoalhaven Street 

Car parking

Available onsite at Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital (main carpark), outpatient carpark located off Shoalhaven street (driveway next to preschool) or surrounding streets. Please note time limits apply in some parking areas.

Advice for disabled in getting to the service

Access to the outpatient reception can be gained via the main hospital entrance and utilisation of the lift from the main corridor to lower level. Alternatively access can be gained via parking in the outpatient carpark located off Shoalhaven street (driveway next to preschool) and entering directly into lower level.

Head of Discipline - Occupational Therapy

Kate Andersen is the Head of Discipline for Occupational Therapy and Diversional Therapy. She also provides leadership to the equipment loan pools across the District. Kate brings a vast variety of clinical experience to the role, with almost 20 years within the local area.

The team of Occupational Therapists work in partnership with clients to maximise independence in their activities of everyday life, enhance safety and optimise their quality of life. Services are provided in hospitals, community health centres and in the home environment.
