What the service is

Speech pathologists assess and manage patients with swallowing and communication impairments. In the geriatric and dementia population, there is a high incidence of impaired swallowing (dysphagia) and /or communication. 

What we do

Speech Pathologists manage patients with swallowing and communication disorders across the lifespan. ISLHD Speech Pathology provide services in inpatient, outpatient, and community settings across the Illawarra and Shoalhaven.

How to access this service

Outpatient speech pathology services are not provided at Bulli Hospital and Aged Care Centre, but can be accessed via Coledale or Port Kembla Hospitals.

Hogg
Head of Discipline - Speech Pathology

Sue-Ellen Hogg is the Head of Discipline for Speech Pathology. She brings 17 years’ experience in speech pathology, working across a variety of acute, subacute and community settings. Sue-Ellen is passionate about improving services for patients and their families and has extensive experience leading both speech pathology and multidisciplinary services within the ISLHD and other Health Districts.

The speech pathology team provide services for children and adults with communication and/or swallowing/feeding difficulties across the lifespan. Services are provided in hospitals, community health centres and in the home environment. Sue-Ellen also provides leadership and governance for the ISLHD Audiology services. The audiology team provide hearing services to adults and children across the Illawarra and Shoalhaven.
