Shoalhaven Cancer Care Centre – Haematology Inpatient and Outpatient Treatment
Clinical Haematology specialises in the diagnosis and management of malignant haematological disorders including leukaemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, myeloproliferative neoplasms and myelodysplastic syndromes as well as non-malignant disorders. We have a very active Clinical Trials Unit providing access to new cancer treatments for patients.
The ISLHD Haematology service treats all aspects of benign and malignant haematological disorders, providing multi-disciplinary inpatient and outpatient care including autologous stem cell transplantation. Patients requiring allogeneic stem cell/bone marrow transplantation are referred to an appropriate allogeneic transplant centre in Sydney. Paediatric haematology inpatients under the age of 15 are cared for by an appropriate children’s hospital. Pre-allogeneic transplant care and diagnostic evaluation as well as post-transplant care is conducted locally in consultation with the allogeneic transplant unit. Adolescents aged 15-18 are managed locally with advice from the state-wide Adolescent and Young Adult Network.

Patients requiring admission for complications of their disease or its treatment may be managed locally by Shoalhaven Hospital general physicians in consultation with our unit, or require transfer to Wollongong to be managed directly by the haematologists - depending on the severity of the presentation and need for specialist care from our unit and other disciplines not available at Shoalhaven Hospital.
