Liver Clinic (Hep B & C) - Shoalhaven

Overview

The Liver Clinic (Viral Hepatology Services) offers information and care to people living with hepatitis B or C.

Hepatitis B and C can damage your liver and affect your health. If you suffer from hepatitis B, you can see the Liver Clinic staff to help manage your illness.

If you are living with hepatitis C, you can see the Liver Clinic staff for medication to help cure the illness. Since March 2016, new medications for hepatitis C have become available. New medications are very good and can cure the illness in as little as 8 weeks. There are very few side effects.

When should I see the Liver Clinic?

Your GP will take some blood from you to test you for hepatitis B and C. Your GP will then confirm the diagnosis. You may have to undergo additional tests to check your liver health.

If hepatitis suspected to have caused scarring on your liver, your GP will write you a referral form to see the Liver Clinic staff at Shoalhaven Hospital. One of the tests offered through the clinic is Fibroscan - an non-invasive scan that can detect scarring. Your doctor can refer you for a Fibroscan using this form.

When making an appointment, bring your referral form, Medicare card and some form of ID.

There is no cost to attend the Liver Clinic.
