Coronary Care Unit - Wollongong Hospital

Overview

The Coronary Care Unit combined with Cardiac Stepdown ward C6East, is the dedicated inpatient unit within ISLHD, specifically designed for care of patients with acute cardiac conditions.

Patients are referred from all facilities within the ISLHD and also from the private sector for more specialised cardiac care.

The Coronary Care Unit provides care for patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction, Patients Post Primary PCI and Pre Hospital Thrombolysis, life threatening arrhythmias and patients with severe heart failure requiring non-invasive ventilation and inotropic support, which require the care of specialised Nursing and Medical Staff.

Less acute patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS), cardiac arrhythmias requiring investigation and patients post PCI can be cared for in the C6 East Unit.  Criteria Led Discharge for post PCI patients is in place on C6East.  Telemetry monitoring is also provided by C6East.
