Illawarra Cancer Care Centre - Social Worker Service

Overview

Social Work provides counselling for:

  • Understanding and adjusting to illness
  • Change in lifestyle and planning for the future
  • Supporting communication with children or grandchildren
  • Maintaining relationships with family/carers and friends
  • Managing feelings of anxiety, grief and loss
  • Bereavement.

Social Workers can also link you in with a wide range of services including home support services, childcare, housing and accommodation, transport, legal and financial matters, and accessing community and government support.

Note: Referrals can be via members of the treating team or people can contact the service directly.

Public Transport

Wollongong Hospital is located close to the Wollongong CBD, near both Wollongong Train Station and the major bus routes.

Parking

The Illawarra Cancer Care Centre has two dedicated parking locations. One is located directly outside the cancer centre and this space is for the use of patients undergoing treatment. Alternate parking is housed within Wollongong Hospital’s multistorey car park.

Entrance

Access is via the main hospital Loftus St entrance. Follow the corridor to the Medical Imaging Department, then follow the signs to Illawarra Cancer Care Centre (ICCC).

Pedestrians can access the service via the Illawarra Cancer Care Centre (ICCC) ground entrance, Level 0, New Dapto Road, adjacent to the Cancer Care Centre patient car park.

Advice for disabled to get to the service

The Illawarra Cancer Centre houses a lift which enables access to the disabled. All entry points to the Cancer Centre are disabled friendly.
