What is it all about?

The first 2000 days of life (that is the time from pregnancy until the age of 5) has a huge impact on your child’s development and their future health and wellbeing.

We know that what happens to bub while in mum’s tummy as well as their early experiences can impact the rest of their life. This includes how well they do at school, how they manage their feelings and how healthy they are when they grow up.

This short film project aims to share information with you on how you can help your child thrive from pregnancy to 5.

Who is running the project?

The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District Child and Family Team are carrying out this project. It is funded by NSW Health under a First 2000 Days Innovation Grant.

Am I eligible to participate?

We are looking for 8 local families to be involved in the project who:

  • Live within the Illawarra or Shoalhaven areas.
  • Are currently pregnant or
  • Have a child who is aged between 0 and 5 years.

What is involved?

  • Attendance at a 1.5 hour presentation and workshop at 10am on Wednesday 21st September 2022 at the Shellharbour City Library to learn more about the project. You’ll take home heaps of simple and fun tips and tools.

  • A 15 minute follow up phone chat with a friendly Child and Family Nurse (a week after the presentation).

  • Attendance and involvement at an afternoon filming session (approx. 3 hours) at 1pm on Wednesday 12th October 2022 at the Early Start Discovery Space, University of Wollongong. You will be filmed interacting with your child and interviewed about what you have put into practice since attending the workshop.

  • Having fun with your child, meeting other local families and being honest and raw about what you learnt while being involved in the project.

Does it cost me anything and will I be paid?

It will not cost you anything to take part. Participants will be provided a complimentary one year membership at the Early Start Discovery Space for 2 people (one adult and one child) valued at $100.00. This will be provided to participants once the filming of the project is complete.

Can I leave the project?

We hope you don’t want to leave us but your participation is voluntary, and you can leave the project at any time.
