Audiology Services - Port Kembla Hospital - Children 8-18 years


What the service is

The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) Audiology Service provides hearing assessments and hearing management advice to residents of the Illawarra and Shoalhaven with hearing and ear health concerns.

How to access this service

Children should be referred when there is a direct concern for ear health or hearing, or when there is a concern for their overall development. Please note that Kids Cottage services children over 8 years who are not developmentally ready. Children do not need a hearing test prior to starting school. A free hearing check of children over 4 years 6 months with Sound Scouts App ( can be used to identify if further assessment is required.

Head of Discipline - Speech Pathology

Sue-Ellen Hogg is the Head of Discipline for Speech Pathology. She brings 17 years’ experience in speech pathology, working across a variety of acute, subacute and community settings. Sue-Ellen is passionate about improving services for patients and their families and has extensive experience leading both speech pathology and multidisciplinary services within the ISLHD and other Health Districts.

The speech pathology team provide services for children and adults with communication and/or swallowing/feeding difficulties across the lifespan. Services are provided in hospitals, community health centres and in the home environment. Sue-Ellen also provides leadership and governance for the ISLHD Audiology services. The audiology team provide hearing services to adults and children across the Illawarra and Shoalhaven.
