Mosquito borne diseases surveillance report

This report monitors trends in laboratory confirmed mosquito borne disease cases reported in residents of the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District over the summer months. It provides a summary of the main mosquito borne diseases of concern in Illawarra Shoalhaven (Barmah Forest virus and Ross River virus) with a breakdown of locally acquired cases to provide information on the geographic distribution of the viruses.

Public Health Emergency Management

The Public Health Unit works with the NSW Ministry of Health and partner agencies to prepare for, prevent, respond to and recover from emergencies and major incidents with public health implications. Effective planning and preparation can reduce the impact on people's health from many types of emergencies including:

  • Natural disasters and severe weather
  • Infectious diseases/food safety threats
  • Chemical and radiation emergencies.
