When your child is sick
If your child is sick and has ketones above 0.6mmol or has taken the wrong insulin, please call:
- The Diabetes Educator on (02) 4231 1930 (Wollongong) or (02) 4224 6300 (Nowra). Monday to Friday 9am to 4:30pm
OR
- The Paediatric Registrar via Wollongong Hospital Enquiries on (02) 4222 5000 (children known to Wollongong Hospital only).
In an emergency or you are unable to receive advice quickly and your child is becoming unwell, call 000 for an ambulance or go to your nearest emergency department.

Please include the following information in your email:
- Your child's name and date of birth
- Your concerns and mention any recent sport, illness or changes in routine
- A copy of the glucose logbook/CGM data/pump upload
- Current insulin doses (injections)
- Preferred method of contact (email or phone)
A Diabetes Educator will respond to your email within 7 business days.
