Being a carer can be challenging, but you don’t have to do it alone.

In this new series of videos, we outline some of the support services available for carers, family and friends of people who struggle with drug or alcohol. The videos share the stories and lived experiences of others who have accessed these services, highlighting the benefits of seeking support and the importance of looking after yourself.

A special thank you to all who were involved and to those who supported the making of these videos. In particular, all the carers who were able to contribute, guide and share their valuable stories with us.

The videos were developed as part of a research project conducted by the ISLHD Drug and Alcohol Service, in partnership with the University of Wollongong and Family Drug Support. They were co-designed with carers, family and friends and a support service provider to help improve awareness and access to these services. The words were shared by the research participants and read by paid professional actors in the videos to protect their privacy. The actors’ age and gender may be different from the original participants.
