In response to the unprecedented and evolving COVID-19 pandemic, Wollongong Hospital has needed to make difficult decisions around visiting hours for all patient areas. This has been done to keep our patients, staff and the community safe from the spread of the virus.

The decisions to implement restrictions have been carefully considered, and while we understand it’s less than ideal, these extraordinary times have required extraordinary measures including restricting hospital entrances, thoroughfares and temperature testing for all staff and visitors entering our facilities.

Given our community transmission rates have remained steady over the past month and an easing of some community restrictions has commenced, the District is developing a staged approach to increasing visitor access starting with Wollongong Hospital’s Maternity Unit.

Starting from tomorrow, 1 May visiting hours for partners will increase to four hours a day over two time slots: 10am-12pm and 3pm-5pm. Partners are welcome to stay for the entire two hour period, of both time slots.

We are now also reviewing visitor access in other areas of the Hospital.

While it is pleasing that we are able to ease some of the visitor restrictions at the moment, the District is taking a cautious approach as things can change very quickly. The situation will continue to be monitored and modifications made accordingly.

The District thanks the community for their ongoing support in these challenging times.
