Two Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) staff members were among the winners announced yesterday, 21 April, in the NSW Health 2021 Excellence in Nursing and Midwifery Awards.

The Awards are the annual celebration and recognition of the achievements, commitment and skills of NSW’s nurses and midwives. Five nurses and midwives from ISLHD were among 26 finalists across eight categories in the Awards, which were virtually streamed and viewed around the State.

ISLHD's winners were:

  • Deborah Cameron, Executive Director Nursing & Midwifery and Clinical Governance - Judith Meppem Leadership Award, and
  • Alison Millar, Palliative Care Nurse - Healing Heart Award for Exceptional Care (consumer-nominated)

The District’s other finalists were:

  • Jenny Greed, Midwife, Shoalhaven Hospital - Healing Heart Award for Exceptional Care (consumer-nominated)
  • Nicole Davis, Shoalhaven Community Nurse - Healing Heart Award for Exceptional Care (consumer-nominated)
  • Matthew White, Shoalhaven Hospital - Aboriginal Nurse/Midwife of the Year.

ISLHD Chief Executive Margot Mains said she could not be more proud of ISLHD’s winners and finalists for having their contributions recognised in the prestigious awards.

“My heartfelt congratulations and thanks go to each of these wonderful nurses and midwives for their dedication, empathy, professionalism and pure hard work in what was an in incredibly demanding time for health service delivery,’’ Ms Mains said.
