Overview
At the Illawarra Shoalhaven Diabetes Service we provide specialist advice to patients who require support to manage their diabetes. We can help you learn how to look after your diabetes, choose what food is best to eat and give you advice for the best management for your diabetes.
What we do
The aim of the diabetes service is to improve or maintain the health and wellness of people with diabetes and related chronic conditions, and to empower them to self-manage their condition.
The Diabetes Service provides both inpatient consultations and outpatient services across the district. Outpatient clinics occur at Wollongong, Shellharbour, Dapto, Nowra, Ulludulla and the Aboriginal Medical Service (AMS).
The Diabetes Service works closely with your GP.
Who we are
- Endocrinologist: We have specialist diabetes doctors (called Endocrinologist) who can help you manage and review your diabetes.
- Diabetes Educators: We have diabetes educators who can help you with understanding what diabetes is, helping you monitor your diabetes and make changes to your diabetes treatment.
- Dietitians: We have dietitians who can assess, educate and support you to make healthy lifestyle changes including nutrition advice, complex carbohydrate counting skills, managing exercise and mindful eating techniques.
- Podiatrists: Podiatrists can help prevent problems, assess and treat foot conditions in people with diabetes.
