Developing and supporting a skilled Aboriginal workforce is vital to the growth and retention of Aboriginal staff, and improved health outcomes for Aboriginal people and communities. Throughout ISLHD there are a range dedicated Aboriginal health staff who are fundamental in ensuring the organisation is responsive to the needs of Aboriginal communities.
Aboriginal Talent Pool
ISLHD have created a new pathway for Aboriginal people to join our diverse and inclusive workforce. A key part of this commitment is the Aboriginal Talent Pool – an accessible pathway for you to connect with our Local Health District and explore opportunities that align with your skills, interests, and career goals.

By registering your interest, you’ll be considered for upcoming clinical (includes Nursing, Allied Health etc.) and non-clinical (includes Administrative, Support Services etc.) positions across ISLHD. No matter your availability – casual, temporary or permanent; part-time or full-time – we offer a wide range of opportunities to suit your needs.

Our Aboriginal Talent Pool is now open until 11 January 2026 and has a focus on Allied Health careers, supporting the care and wellbeing of individuals and families throughout the Illawarra and Shoalhaven region.

Stepping Up
Stepping Up is NSW Health’s online recruitment resource for Aboriginal applicants and hiring
managers. The resource supports the NSW Ministry of Health’s commitment to growing the Aboriginal workforce across the public health sector and also offers information on career opportunities in health and advice to new starters to ease the transition to NSW Health.
Stepping Up aims to assist Aboriginal job applicants understand how to apply for roles in NSW Health by clarifying the recruitment process and addresses some of the challenges that can be experienced by hiring managers so they can more effectively structure recruitment to roles within NSW Health.
