The Immunisation team at the Public Health Unit provides general advice and information on adult and childhood immunisation to healthcare providers. We implement initiatives targeting infants, adolescents, adults, Aboriginal people, health care workers, refugees, and older people by undertaking the duties listed below:
- Co-ordinating the implementation of the National Vaccination Schedule in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven
- Providing advice, support, information and education to health providers
- Follow up of cold chain breaches
- Management and co-ordination of school vaccination program
- Providing various educational sessions in child care centres, aged care facilities, University of Wollongong, TAFE and medical centres
- Following up notifications of adverse events following immunisation
- Providing assistance with catch up immunisation schedules
- Being involved in quality improvement activities and delivering up to date evidence-based information to community and health care providers
- Being responsible for vaccine orders in relation to Rabies vaccine and immunoglobulin and school based vaccines (Contact the Public Health Unit Ph: 4221 6700)
- Collecting and reporting data on Neonatal Hepatitis B vaccination
- Approval of Yellow Fever Clinics and New Vaccine Accounts
- Yellow fever Providers
- Assisting with Staff Influenza Clinics and Community clinics
- Follow up on complaints of inappropriate clinical practice by vaccine providers
- Implementation of various Immunisation Policies for ISLHD
School Immunisation Program Records
If you have a patient who attends your practice and you require records of vaccination from the School Immunisation Program. Please contact the Public health Unit to obtain these on Ph: 4221 6700.

Maintaining Authority to Immunise
It is your responsibility to keep your practice current. For your General Nursing Registration you are required to have at least 20 hours of documented learning. Some of these hours can include immunisation education.
