Who we are

Welcome to Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (LHD). We understand that parents and carers need support to raise healthy children. We offer many free services for children up to the age of 16.

Interpreter services in many languages are available free.

We want to hear from you! Your feed back will help us improve how we support families.

COVID-19

Due to COVID-19 our services are now delivered in many ways. All services for families, carers and children are available, but you may receive services and support:

over the phone
by video conferencing (telehealth)
or in person at a health service building

Child and Family health services and advice

Aboriginal child

Aboriginal Maternal Infant and Child Health

Culturally safe appropriate care from pregnancy through the first 5 years. Includes Aboriginal health workers, midwives, Child and Family health nurses, allied health

Child and Family Health Centres

Free health and development checks with child and family health nurses, parenting guidance and support, breast and infant feeding, nutrition, wellbeing and support information

Child and Family Allied Health Services

Support for children's developmental needs, allied health services available such as psychology, audiology, speech pathology, occupational therapy and physiotherapy for children

Diagnostic and Assessment Service

For children from birth to pre-school, for formal developmental delay and Autism spectrum assessment. Referral by Paediatricians only. Located in North Wollongong

Family Care Centres

Referral only free service offering support for breastfeeding and infant feeding, sleeping, settling, parenting, anxiety and depression, health and wellbeing support for families

Feeding information and support

Support and advice on breastfeeding and infant feeding, one-on-one appointments or group support with Child and Family nurse, information and resources to help with feeding, no referral needed, free service

Parent Groups

Parent groups led by nurses and parents to meet and share information, including parenting, breastfeeding, introducing family foods, sleep and settling. Groups are free, no referral needed

Referral only free service helping families with infants in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven going through social and financial hardship, support for children and families at home, mental health and wellbeing support

Brighter Beginnings

Brighter Beginnings

Free health and development checks for four year old children in Early Learning Centres, this service works collaboratively with families and centres to provide the right supports for children.

Head to Health Kids

Head to Health Kids Illawarra Shoalhaven Hub

Head to Health Kids Hub is currently in planning phase, we are not yet providing services.
Free early intervention mental health and wellbeing service for children under 12 years of age.
No diagnosis is required to access support.

Service for adults, children, young people, domestic and family violence, sexual assault, abuse, neglect, counselling, 24/7 crisis medical service, culturally safe

Specialist counselling for young people aged between 10 and 17 who have sexually harmed someone, free counselling service, family support, respectful, culturally safe environment

Health assessments for children and young people entering Out of Home Care, improve health and wellbeing, health management plans, emotional support, culturally safe environment

Safe Wayz

A program supporting children under ten of all cultures, backgrounds and abilities who have displayed problematic or harmful sexual behaviours, including their families and carers.

Referral only, clinical care for newborn infants born at 32 weeks or later, inpatient, acute care, feeding and growing, handover of care, emotional and wellbeing support, families, culturally safe

Paed Inpatients

Paediatric Inpatients

Referral only, acute inpatient care, birth to 16 years of age, Wollongong and Shoalhaven Hospitals, surgical and short stay admissions, emotional and wellbeing support, education support, culturally safe

Paed Outpatient

Paediatric Outpatients

Referral only, diagnostic tests, electro-encephalograms (EEG), specialist health management, medical assessment and treatment, Wollongong, Shellharbour and Shoalhaven Hospitals, culturally safe
