Immunisation and Vaccination Status

Accordion Content

The transmission of vaccine-preventable diseases in a healthcare setting has the potential to cause serious illness and avoidable deaths in staff, patients, and other users of the health system, as well as others in the greater community. ISLHD has a duty of care and a responsibility under work health and safety legislation to control and minimise this risk.

Positions within NSW Health are established as either Category A or Category B.

Applicants for Category A positions must provide evidence of protection against specified infectious diseases and are also required to:

  • Complete the Undertaking/Declaration Form and Tuberculosis (TB) Assessment Tool, provided during pre-employment checks.
  • Provide evidence of protection, as specified in Appendix 1: Evidence of protection of the policy directive.
  • Receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually during the influenza season to be considered compliant.

Applicants for Category B positions are recommended to review and stay up to date with the Policy directive below, as a new recruit and throughout their employment with ISLHD.

For more information see Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy.

Working With Children's Check (WWCC)

Accordion Content

For positions designated as child-related employment, or positions that may result in proximity to children, you will be required to obtain a Working with Children clearance number from the Office of the Children’s Guardian.

To obtain a WWCC clearance number, follow the instructions on the website of Service NSW, which includes completing an online application form and then attending a Service NSW Centre or a NSW Council Agency that provides Road and Maritime Services, to provide proof of identity and pay for the WWCC to be completed.

Please note that a volunteer WWCC (which is free) cannot be used for paid employment.

Rural Health Workforce Incentive Scheme

Accordion Content

NSW Health recognises that attracting and retaining health workers in rural areas of NSW can be challenging. To assist stabilising the supply of health workers in rural locations, incentives over and above award entitlements may be offered to entice workers to roles that have been deemed ‘hard to fill’ or ‘critical’ to service provision.

Under the Rural Health Workforce Incentive Scheme, an incentive package of up to $10,000 may be offered for certain positions located in Shoalhaven and Milton. These positions will be clearly marked with ‘Incentives Offered’ in the advertisement title.
