About the project
Beyond the Habit was a trial 12-week SMS support program for young people aged 18–25 in the Illawarra Shoalhaven who vape or smoke. The program shared simple tips, tools and encouragement to help participants cut back or quit, while also supporting their mental wellbeing.
Fifty-two young people took part between April and September 2025. Delivered in partnership with headspace Wollongong, the pilot showed strong engagement, positive wellbeing outcomes and meaningful reductions in nicotine use. We are now exploring opportunities to expand Beyond the Habit so more young people can benefit.
